“I recently attended an Eat Drink Talk class and was very impressed! We made a delicious pizza (which, fingers crossed, I think I can replicate at home). What made the class such a nice way to spend the evening were a few things: small class size (there were maybe 9 or 10 of us – all good folks too), attention to quality ingredients and seasonality, and little things such as receiving a recipe binder to take home with me.
The instructor, Jennifer, was brilliant, fun and (most importantly in my case) patient. I could tell she was doing exactly what she loves to do – cooking excellent food and breaking bread with others in a convivial setting.” Read full review

Our Knife Skills class was Featured in Time Out, UK (Nov 20, 2008)
“We were indeed taught, with the help of Les Trois Garcons’ head chef Jerome Henry, how to correctly use a knife. This included learning how to clinch the onion with that expert claw you see chefs doing on TV, and making sure the blade glided effortlessly down our knuckles to prevent chopping fingers. Within minutes my knife was making a pleasant swishing sound and the slices were more even and slender than I’d ever achieved before. We progressed to root vegetables and learnt how to cut them into neat batons before finishing up with a lesson in knife sharpening.” Read full article

“I recently spent a very enjoyable evening in a Clerkenwell loft learning how to make authentic Mexican food. I was at an eat drink talk class with Jennifer Klinec and it was great fun. Sat around a large table, working in pairs, jumping between recipes to allow time for dough to rest, fish to marinade and goats milk to caramelise (well, turn to toffee but i’m not sure toffeeise is a word!) and sipping the wine we had bought with us, we easily worked our way through the recipes in the 3 hours allotted. The recipes were all delicious and used ingredients which I was unfamiliar with, to create a more authentic, non tex-mex range of flavours. I came away from the class having enjoyed my evening, knowing where to source Mexican ingredients and specialist equipment (a corn tortilla press is on the list), with a selection of recipes which I know I could recreate and a confidence to try other authentic Mexican recipes which I track down myself. What more could I ask for other than time and money to spend on another class or two?” Read full posting

“The recipes we’ll be learning sound mouthwatering, and before long we’re chopping, mixing and tapping mussels like pros. The recipes are all dinner party-friendly. They taste seriously impressive, but there aren’t any complicated techniques involved. Certain aspects of the course – learning how to kill a lobster, for instance – might not be for the squeamish, but Klinec is careful to point out how to treat live seafood humanely. Seafood had always seemed like the Naomi Campbell of the home cook’s repertoire to me. It needn’t be so however – all it takes is a little knowledge and the confidence to give it a go.”

“I am now the master of six dishes to challenge the snobbiest Parisian, thanks to an evening at Eat Drink Talk, a cookery school run by Jennifer Klinec in London’s trendy Clerkenwell. The classes are relaxed and fun —helped along with an ice-breaking Bellini that we made ourselves with a rose syrup —quite unusual but surprisingly pleasant. Jennifer’s knowledge of food and suppliers is extensive and the evening was peppered with useful hints, suggestions and favourite artisans.”

“Conducting informal classes from the kitchen of her Clerkenwell flat, Jennifer Klinec works through six or so meals in a session, the results of which are passed round to be munched and mulled over by the ten students who are gathered round. Sometimes, as with the rolling of the gnocchi, students were encouraged to get involved; otherwise we relaxed with freshly prepared cocktails while Klinec showed us the moves. Our teacher was enthusiastic and chatty throughout, explaining everything as she went and filling in pauses in group conversation with an encouraging question or two of her own. She was tireless in her recommendations of worthwhile food outlets. Staggering away full of facts and food, its a bit like having a personal audience with a chef.” Read Full Article

“..the group of chilled, funny blokes I had the pleasure of spending the evening with were perfect gents. It was a mixed bag of ages, accents and culinary expertise which made for some interesting banter and Jennifer led the class with gentle humour, consummate skill and an encyclopaedic knowledge of food in London. The classes are held in a lovely airy space with Jennifer demonstrating to up to 10 people. A large jug of mojito was there to greet us and this helped break the ice and we were soon getting stuck in. The class was pitched at a level that offered something to everyone. Basic techniques for preparing fish, cleaning squid and scallops where covered as well as where you could score the good stuff in London. Ingredients were introduced and passed around and as more mojitos went down and wine bottles were opened we all relaxed and got into the chopping and slicing, even more into the eating and I don’t think we even once mentioned football.” Read Full Posting
